The structure for methoxetamine is incorrect. I actually am looking forward to trying it relatively soon. Anyways the methoxy group should be on the other side (I think carbon 3.... been awhile since organic).

The C-C bond in the phenyl ring rotates so it is acceptable either way. The direction that substituents are named around the ring only matters when there is more than one, in which case they are named to afford the second substituent a lower number.

So there are two third carbons depending on which direction you count, if that is not clear.

Lastly these are not energy minimized conformations, obviously. The cyclohexane ring is not planar and will adopt the chair or half-chair conformation. I don't have a good program for generating energy minimized diagrams so I was motivated by aesthetics...my next article is on methoxetamine...

My little bird maybe trying that out soon.
